Storm, Technical Issues, Karmic Glitches Force Cancellation of WKVT Burlington Broadcast; But Bloggers, Alternative Types Still Plan to Circle Wagons, Damn Straight

by Philip Baruth

The Bad News: Steve West and Gorty Baldwin called this morning to say that a series of persistent technical problems — magnified by today’s stormy weather — has made broadcasting from Burlington tomorrow night impossible. They’ve done their best, but can’t make it happen. A rain check is in the distant early planning stages.

radio, triumphantBut it was a Heavy Bummer: first Odum just floats away from the blogosphere like a spacewalking astronaut whose cable somehow gets cut, and now this.

And just when a circling of the wagons was needed most.

Which led to the Good News, the only possible conclusion: the show must go on.

So although the party will not be broadcast, and although no recording of it will exist for future generations, the party will go ahead as planned: 6-8 p.m. tomorrow night, Saturday, at the Euro Cafe, lower Main Street in Burlington.

With luck we’ll get some or most of the bloggers and alternative media types who had been scheduled to speak; with a bit more we’ll get to have a beer with a good cross-section of readers and listeners. Baklava will still be available on demand. Drifting phyllo dough will still fill the air like tiny tan snow flakes.

If you’re free and you can make it — and you’ve got a wagon to add to the circle — we’ll see you then.

Late Update, Friday, 5:03 pm:

Dudes! Apparently it’s a party. Spurred by an unexpected but very welcome RSVP from Odum, nearly every one of the original bloggers, columnists and publishers has been in touch to say that they’ll still be there tomorrow.

Sweet.

So if you can make it, you’ll still get to meet, button-hole, and berate Alex Ball (Rip and Read), Haik Bedrosian (Burlingtonpol), Neil Jensen (What’s the Point and Vermonters for Obama), Cathy Resmer (Seven Days/802 Online), Charity Tensel (She’s Right), Shay Totten (Vermont Guardian), and Bill Simmon (Candleblog).

And of course, the talented but reclusive Yusef will still be providing the photos.

And just to give you a heart-tugging visual to steer by, here’s much of the same crew, back in the day. See you tomorrow.
